Terms of use

Last updated

These terms apply when you use sunloop.com.au or embed the Sunloop UV widget. By using the site or the widget, you agree to them.

What Sunloop UV provides

Sunloop UV shows UV index forecasts, sun protection times and general sun-safety information for places in Australia. The site is free to use and doesn’t require an account.

General information, not medical advice

Everything on Sunloop UV is general information. It isn’t medical advice and doesn’t replace advice from a doctor or other health professional who knows your circumstances. If you’re worried about your skin, a mole, a burn or a reaction to the sun, see your GP or a dermatologist.

Forecasts can be wrong

UV forecasts are model estimates. Cloud, smoke, altitude, reflection from water, sand or snow, and local conditions can make the real UV level higher or lower than shown. Data can also be delayed or temporarily unavailable. Use Sunloop UV as a guide, and protect your skin whenever you’re outside for long periods, whatever the forecast says.

Where the data comes from

UV forecasts come from Open-Meteo and are used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. UV observations for capital cities are courtesy of the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA). Locality data comes from the Australian Bureau of Statistics under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. These organisations don’t endorse Sunloop UV. Our sources page lists each one.

Using the widget

You can embed the Sunloop UV widget on any website for free, including school, club, council and community sites, provided that:

  • you use the embed code from sunloop.com.au/widget without changing how the widget works or what it displays
  • you keep the “UV by Sunloop UV” link visible
  • you don’t present the widget as your own service or imply that we endorse your site
  • you don’t place the widget on a site that is unlawful, misleading or offensive

We may change, pause or withdraw the widget at any time, and we may block the widget on sites that don’t follow these conditions.

Acceptable use

Please don’t misuse the site. In particular, don’t:

  • copy large parts of the site or its data by automated means, or overload our servers
  • try to break, probe or get around the site’s security
  • use the site in a way that breaks the law

If you’d like to use Sunloop UV data in your own product, email hello@sunloop.com.au.

Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that can’t be excluded.

Subject to that, Sunloop UV is provided as is, and we don’t promise that it will always be available, accurate or free of errors. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site, the widget or its data, including sunburn or other harm that occurs whatever the forecast showed.
